Western Europe: Cable to dominate digital pay TV
Analog switch off in Western Europe will see digital pay TV penetration exceed 50% by 2016. With new competition from DTT and IPTV platforms, and high pay TV penetration stifling the market, cable subscriber-growth in Western Europe has stalled and is set to decline over the next five years. As a result, cable operators have focused their attention on migrating existing analog customers to digital cable services, and increasing ARPU through bundled services. We expect to see digital cable become the dominant digital pay TV platform in the region by 2013, and reach penetration of 19% by 2016.
